In January 2017 I moved to Amsterdam and started working for Chama. It was by then a 4-month old startup with a very basic app and a desktop tool. I worked closely with the dev team and the Head of Product, but also gathering a lot of information from the amazing customer care team.
During this time I was responsible for preparing and executing user research, completely revamping the apps they already had with a new visual language, and designing new features for both Android and iOS apps and the desktop admin interface.
What is Chama?
In areas where there is no piped gas, people have to buy gas bottles or cylinders. They had a limited number of ways to do so, either calling a gas dealer for delivery, picking up at the store or waiting for a truck to pass by.
Chama came to help this situation: it's an app to order gas. There are many dealers available, with different brands and price ranges for the customer to choose what best suits him.
Apart from the customer-facing mobile apps (Android and iOS), there is also a desktop app for the gas dealer to receive and process the orders they receive.
One of the first projects I did at Chama was a full visual revamp on the Android app, that was later ported to iOS as well. It was not about any new features but rather giving a more pleasant and appealing look, but also improving clarity, information hierarchy and consistency.
